Anatomy of the Goat
Anatomy of the Goat This interactive animation is included on the CD. Learn the skeletal structure and the external parts of the goat. An interactive test scores your ability.

Reproduction in the Goat
Reproduction in the goatThe migration of sperm in the doe's reproductive tract is only a brief sample of the information on reproduction in the goat. The CD continues with the reproductive anatomy of the buck and doe, description of the estrus cycle, hormonal interactions and development of the fetus. A handy gestation calculator (available as a free download) is useful to determine the birthdate of kids.

Chromosome InheritanceAnother sample animation from the reproduction section explains how in the process of meiosis, chromosomes including the X and Y chromosomes are inherited.

Life Cycles of Parasites that Infect Goats
The CD explains the life cycle of 14 of the most common internal parasites that infect goats in the United States.
Fasciola hepatica imageAnimations include:
The coccidians Eimeria and Cryptosporidium
The liver fluke, Fasciola hepatica
The double pored tapeworm, Moniezia expansa
The whipworm, Trichuris ovis.
Parelaphostrongylus tenuis, the deer brain or meningeal worm which cause severe problems for goats and other ruminants.
The three stomach worms, Haemonchus contortus (barber pole worm), Ostertagia circumcincta (brown stomach worm), and Trichostrongylus species (hair worm).
Nematodirus or the thin-necked intestinal worm,
the nodular worm, Oesophagostomum columbianum which is also a serious problem for sheep, and Strongyloides papillosus (common thread worm).
The life cycles of the two lungworms that infect goats, Dictyocaulus vivparus and Muellerius capillaris are explained in clear easy to understand steps.

Sample animations from the parasite section.

Eimeria Life CycleThe life cycle of a coccidian parasite Eimeria
The parasitic one-celled organism that causes the disease coccidiosis is from the same class (Sporozoa) as the organisms that cause malaria. Parasites from this class form spores at some stage of their life cycle.

Goat tapeworm life cycleThe life cycle of the tapeworm Moniezia expansa requires an intermediate host to continue its development and before it can infect the goat.

Stomach worm lifecycleHaemonchus contortus, a stomach worm that infects goats and sheep can cause fatal anemia. Understanding the life cycle can help with control of this parasite.

"I can't thank you enough for putting this together. I can't believe how much information you have in each section. If this program doesn't fascinate and motivate nothing will. What an education for anyone at any level. It should serve everyone interested in goats from children to professionals."

Digestion in the Goat
rumen graphicDiscover the fascinating world that goes on inside the goat's digestive system. The Biology of the Goat CD covers the mouth and age of teeth eruption, the anatomy of the digestive system, rumen microbiology and a brief overview of rumen fermentation.

rumen fungi

This sample animation from the Rumen Microbes section describes the life cycle of a fungi of the genus Neocallismastix that lives in the rumen.

The kids did great at fair with their educational display on the 4 stomachs of a goat. They got a blue award, judges choice award, and it is going to state fair! Pretty darn good! My youngest daughter was in the Round Robin showmanship class and the pygmy goat judge asked how many stomachs a goat has. Not only could Sara tell her that but also the names of each. The judge was impressed!
Thanks for a great CD.

Lactation in the Goat
